UA Republicans

Laura Carr and Caitlin Connors address the College Republicans about an upcoming regional convention. Carr helped organize the trip and was planning on running for a position in the Alabama College Republicans.
There are 13 College Republican chapters in the state of Alabama and more than 1,800 across the nation. The main goal of the organization is to help promote and cultivate conservative ideals in the younger generation.
Throughout the year, the College Republicans at UA hold weekly meetings, host guest speakers, and sponsor fund raisers to further their efforts.
“The best thing about CRs is definitely the networking,” Connors said. “We make it a point for our members to create the contacts they need to build a political future. Further than that, CRs forces you to learn how state politics works, to know your elected officials, and obtain the knowledge needed to debate your beliefs.”
As the 2016 election approaches, republicans – even at the college level – are looking forward and getting involved. For the members of CR, that means keeping up the momentum.
“My hope for College Republicans in the future is that we are able to continue to expand,” Connors said. “I hope that we can encourage our age group to care and engage and be more aware of how important politics is.”
