Creative Campus

Creative Campus was founded by students in 2006 and is a collaborative organization. The idea of Creative Campus is to promote art on campus and within the community through ventures that may not have been established beforehand or not publicized. The group focuses on finding art in different sections of campus. Some students decided that the arts in Tuscaloosa were vibrant but not publicized enough for people to be aware of it. Students in the honors college took it on as a project in which they wanted to create something that would shed light on all the different art organizations and art types on campus and around Tuscaloosa. From there, they got input from others students and have grown on campus.
Creative Campus is open to all students and majors. While the group focuses on art, they put on many events throughout the years that the students plan and produce. Some of the events include the Black Warrior Film Festival, a professor speaking series and the Tin Can Tales.
“Creative Campus is not only for art students, because, to put on an event you need people from different disciplines because everyone has different specialties.” Creative Campus Inter, Taylor Stec, said.
The program itself is an internship program. Every student in the program is an intern although they do take volunteers. Volunteers are typically people getting a head start on being an intern. They hold weekly meetings where they discuss different projects and events that they are going to be hosting. All meetings and events are open to the public.
Some of the main benefits of joining creative campus are the social aspect because you will meet people in different majors and become friends through the similar interest of wanting to promote art. Another great and practical benefit is that it looks really good on your resume and gives you real world experience which can help you get future jobs.
“Show up, enjoy yourself, and open your mind.” Stec said.

In the second installment of Tin Can Tales, Brian Krause recounted a particularly crazy night he had while studying abroad in China.
